it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas

Well here it is. The most magical time of the year is upon us. It's finally Christmastime! And I am a firm believer that there is absolutely nothing better than Christmastime in NYC.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved coming into NYC to see the tree at Rockefeller Plaza and the window displays at Macy's. I would get off the train at Penn Station, eager to cram all the holiday joy I possibly could into my short visit.

But living in NYC is a whole different ball game, one which allows me to soak it all in. Enjoying it all, bit by bit. And just 3 days into December, and I can already say that it has been an absolute dream.

Even doing homework becomes a magical affair when one has the chance to do it at the New York Public Library, which has been extravagantly decked out all in the name of Christmas spirit.

It's funny though, because while I have graduated from college, I'm still a student, and while so much has changed, so much as remained the same. I still have winter break where I'll be off from classes, free to go home and sleep in my childhood bedroom and play with my dogs and watch movies on the couch with my siblings. And yet, I am older, living in the city and going to class and working part time and striving for as much independence as I can attain while knowing that I can't afford my rent entirely on my own.

But while I'm trying to come to terms with how much has and hasn't changed in the last six months, I got into the Christmas spirit with a Providence College Alumni Christmas Party this past weekend where we celebrated being alumni with an open bar and endless appetizers. To top it all off, the next morning my two good pals Anna and Erin and I got all our mom's together to have a Mom Lunch and see the tree.

Last night, my roommate Bri and I finally got around to buying our very own Christmas tree for the apartment. Sadly not a real one since neither of us are responsible enough to remember to water it, and our apartment is always unnaturally warm, so a fake one was the best we could do. And the best we could manage was a teeny tiny tree that stands 10" tall - making it the perfect apartment sized tree for a couple of graduate students on a budget.

Hope you're all getting into the holiday spirit like I've been these past few days!

Cheers,
Katie
