tim tams and residual teen angst: a memoir

Or at least that's what my memoir would be called if I ever wrote one after this week.

For starters, tim tams are God's gift to earth. Smooth cream sandwiched between two biscuits (cookies for all you Americans playing at home) and coated in milk chocolate.

Heaven.
On.
Earth.

To make matters worse, I recently discovered red velvet tim tams which basically means that I'll be eating double my weight in them from now until the day I leave.

Besides eating a life's supply of tim tams in less than 2 months, what else have I been doing with my time you ask? Well, since this is for all intents and purposes a food appreciation post, I've been eating. More specifically, I've been consuming a wide variety of gelato, including flavors like Hansel - He's Hot Right Now and Stairway to Heaven.

(No I didn't make those up. Yes they are real flavors. Of course I would have way too much fun if my job title was "Official Gelato Name Maker" because whoever that guy is, he's living the dream.)

And I've obviously been drinking enough coffee to caffeinate a small nation (and man oh man it's really really really good coffee btw). In fact, I'll probably suffer from Australian coffee withdrawals when I leave here because it's just that good.

*Friday morning pick-me-ups*

*Yes, my mocha is beautiful, but so is that view - no not the woman ruining my shot,
I mean the Opera House in the distance*

*But I mean hey the mocha is still delightful*

*The flawless view from the top of the Sydney Contemporary Art Museum that I went to this week pretending
to be cultured and know more about modern art than I actually do,
which is in fact nothing at all*

*Campos coffee is the best coffee I think I have ever had ever,
and all other coffee shops should just quit now because there is no way to top them.
They make me kind of want to pull a Buddy The Elf and congratulate them on having the world's best cup of coffee;
but then again, they probably already know.*
So essentially, it looks like all I do here is eat. And I'd say you're pretty much right.

But besides eating, I happen to also do other things. Like get my nose pierced on a Tuesday night after work. I always wanted one, so I figured why not get it done thousands of miles from home and thoroughly freak out my grandma the next time I see her???

The guy who pierced my nose was super nice, funny, and dealt with my slight pre-piercing freakout since I hate needles (and he also put his fingers in my nose so he gets an A+ from me for quality service).

All I can say is that the first few days have been interesting, since every time I yawn I get wildly confused about why my nose is sore. And then I remember that I did not in fact get punched in the nose, but I did however decide to put a hunk of metal in it. I also keep thinking there's a bug on the end of the nose (don't worry, there's not), but once again, that's just because I just haven't gotten used to the chunk of metal I decided to add to my left nostril. Weird right? But other than that, it's grand.

On another note, when I whip out my iPod and listen to some McFly or Forever the Sickest Kids or All Time Low, I feel like a super angsty teen who overuses the phrases "UGH mom you're embarrassing me!" and "Mom you just don't understand me, it's not just a phase, GOSH". And considering I wasn't a particularly angsty teen (shocking I know) it seems like my rebellious teen years have arrived a tad behind schedule. Oh well, better late than never.

Cheers
Katie
